With synthetic turf, your outdoors will look stunning. Aside from the beauty, here are the great reasons why you need Vegas Artificial Grass:

Installing Artificial Turf Grass Is A Lot Like Laying Carpet Artificial Turf Works Best On A Flat Compacted Well
Artificial turf grass, invented and patented by Monsanto, made its first appearance at a Providence, R.I. high school in 1964. Originally known as ChemGrass, it was later rebranded AstroTurf after it replaced a burned-out natural grass field in the Houston Astrodome in 1966. Other manufacturers eventually produced their own products, and today youll find artificial turf in professional, college and high school stadiums coast to coast.
Artificial turf grass didnt become a viable option for homeowners until less rugged, more decorative versions became available in the 1990s. And while it hasnt exactly gone viral, its definitely on the upswing. The New York Times reports a 15 percent increase in artificial turf installations since 2017.
Some people believe modern versions look more realistic than they used to. One landscaper in Marin County, California claims it took him two years to discover a neighboring lawn, impressively green and well-manicured, was artificial. A friend of mine in nearby Santa Cruz County installed artificial turf in a part of her yard too shaded by redwoods to support a natural lawn. After 10 years, it still looks great.
If youre interested in an artificial lawn, research the pros and cons there are plenty of both. If youve done that and youre ready to install, these tips can help you achieve the best of the low-maintenance realism that artificial turf offers.

Artificial Grass Installation Videos
Artificial grass installation can take from 5 to 12 hours on average to install on any small to average size lawn. We have an artificial lawn installed in Auburn, California in the beautiful Lake of the Pines community. The most important part of synthetic turf installation is the base preparation. If your site is properly prepared, spread, and well compacted with drain rock, road base, or decomposed granite, the second step is easy. You just need a pair of scissors, measuring tape, and a pair of strong hands to lay out the turf on the base, seam the seams, and fasten the turf down with staples or nails.
We expect to release a full series of installation videos in 2017 that will be available on our website and our social YouTube Channel.
What Can I Put Under Artificial Grass For My Dog
For an outdoor turf lawn, theres not much that needs to be added to artificial grass for dogs besides a pet-friendly turf infill. Turf that is installed on concrete and indoors will likely need a drainage underlay to help prevent a build up of urine, leading to odor. Additionally, we recommend laying padding under turf on concrete to provide extra comfort and cushion to our furry friends, whether running around or taking a nap. Regular cleaning and removal of waste is always a must to maintain pet turf.

Signs You Might Have A More Serious Problem
Unfortunately for some customers the first sign they see is a very serious sign, a semi-circle on a slab of turf. This is a phenomenon we refer to as pallet burn. This means that the centre of the pallet has started to combust like compost and started to break down. It starts from the centre of the pallet and works its way out hence the circle which appears as a semi-circle on a slab.
These semi-circles will continue to darken as that turf is now dead and wont recover. The turf will eventually repair itself filling in the gap, but this can take several months. You can also purchase new slabs to replace the damaged ones, if you see the problem early the damaged slabs will be easy to pull up and replace. Of course the best way to deal with this issue is to avoid it altogether!

Seam Your Turf Pieces Together
Once youve prepared and finalized your base layer, its time to attach the artificial grass. Roll out your artificial grass at least 2-3 hours prior to installation to allow it to acclimate and settle so there arent any creases. Be careful not to dont drag the grass over the base or you might ruin the smooth surface
Lay out artificial grass onto your base layer and position where needed. As artificial grass has a pattern, place it so all the blades of grass are facing the same direction for the most natural look.
Fix any pieces that need to be connected by joining them together with quality outdoor tape or turf glue, by following the specific instructions on the products. Typically this is done by applying tape lengthwise to the bottom side of turf, lining up the turf edges to match the lines on the seaming tape. Apply pressure to the seams by placing heavy objects like plant pots, stones or other heavy materials on top to solidify the adhesive. We recommend that you utilize S shaped seams as opposed to straight seams in order to hide them. Seams are almost always going to be inevitable so any tips or tricks to hide them as best as possible is what you will want to do.
Optional: For Obstructed Areas
If you have objects and obstructions in your space, cut your synthetic grass around it. For easier spotting, lean it against the obstacle and fold it back. Estimate where to start your relief cuts by marking from the base going up. Continue until the obstructions base is covered by turf.
If there are trees or posts, make big relief cuts for the synthetic grass to bend across.
When installing artificial turf around trees and other obstructions, the goal is to have relief cut touch the back of the tree/obstruction.
When cutting in the shape of a patio, fold back portions piece by piece and cut towards the center from the edge.
When cutting around sidewalks, patios, and surfaces almost in its level, pull back on the cut part while slicing so you can see what youre cutting.
Relief cuts should be close enough to still allow the turf to lay flat while the flaps can still go up the objects. For long cuts, cut short distances at a time and repeatedly compare the edges to make sure there are no visible gaps. Size the turf little by little so you dont cut off more than necessary.
After all the relief cuts have been made, cut off the patches piece by piece.

Choose Turf And Infill Based On The Expected Use
Artificial turf is made of nylon, polypropylene or polyethylene. Nylon is the softest and most realistic, but its also the least durable. Polypropylene is essentially the opposite: durable, but not realistic. Polyethylene strikes a good balance, and because its easy to clean and deodorize, its the best choice if you own pets.
Pile height is another important consideration. Two to three inches is best for high-traffic areas, increasing the products durability and making it more comfortable for walking and playing. A shorter pile height, from 1/2- to 1-1/2-inches, is easier to maintain and a better choice for low-traffic areas like courtyards and apartment balconies.
Infill is the material you spread on the turf immediately after installation to hold it down and help mitigate the heat retention of the plastic grass blades.
Crumb rubber, manufactured from recycled car tires, is one of the most common infills. But its lightweight, doesnt hold well in high winds and amplifies the synthetic odors of the turf. Plus, its an environmental concern that recycled car rubber contains toxic chemicals that can leach into the ground.
Acrylic coated sand and silica sand are safer choices. Zeolite, also eco-friendly, is a fourth option with deodorizing properties that can benefit households with pets.

Prepare A Solid Substrate
Its possible to install artificial turf directly on the ground. But it wont look like a lawn because all the small bumps and depressions will be visible and distracting. Pros recommend installing a four-inch base of class-2 road base rock or something similar, then compacting it to a solid surface.
Its a good idea to follow this up with a 1/2- to one-inch layer of compacted sand or decomposed granite to provide a smooth underlay for the turf. If you dont want to dig down that deep, a one-inch layer of compacted sand or decomposed granite is a bare minimum for solidity, comfort and good drainage.
Grade the underlay as you go. Flat areas of your new artificial turf lawn must have a minimum slope of 1/4-inch per foot toward a runoff point to prevent water from collecting under the turf and degrading it.

Artificial Grass Installation Facts You Need To Know
Melting: Beware of highly reflective windows on the south or west side of your home. In certain conditions, sunlight hitting these windows has created a magnifying glass effect, which acts much like a laser and will melt your turf. A coating on the outside of the window will prevent this.
Weather: Our turf can be installed in the mountains, where rain and snow drain very well with no flooding issues. Wind is not a worry if the installation has been done properly. In the hot Southwest part of the US, the grass can get quite warm to the touch during the midday direct sun. The grass does not retain heat in the shade or darkness like rock. The turf can easily take even the hottest direct sunlight without damage, providing that there isnt any strong reflection or sun magnification.
Pets Smell: The best solution for getting rid of pet smell is to use ZeoFill. It works as a molecular sieve creating a cation exchange, which occurs when two or more positively charged compounds or elements exchange places on a negatively charged host. This exchange process removes charges and essentially removes ammonia in pet waste.
Signs You Might Have A Minor Problem
Many people dont realise you need to immediately lay your turf and sometimes leave their turf for a day or two before they lay it. Local weather conditions as well as the current season will all affect how long the turf can be on a pallet and still be healthy.
For some customers this will just mean their turf will just need a little extra TLC after they lay it. If they are very lucky the turf will just be slightly stressed and show no visible signs of this. Alternatively the turf could become heat-stressed and become off coloured. Then you can expect to see some yellowing of the leaf. The big key to look for is green at the centre of the pallet, as the more serious problem of pallet burn starts at the centre of the pallet.

Here Are 10 Things That Might Make You Think Twice About Artificial Turf:
Price. I’m not going to bury the lede… there is a significant investment involved. A properly installed artificial lawn is more like your paver patio than your traditional lawn. Expect to pay $25-$35 a square foot. Yes, a 1000 square foot lawn will be over $25K. Note that this assumes your turf is installed properly. Most is not.
Low maintenance, not NO maintenance. Yes, your required mowings will go from 40 per year to 0. However, it will need to be cleared of leaves and debris if you have trees nearby. And even if you don’t, fake grass wants to be raked occasionally to look its best. There is no app for that, but we do provide a special rake with every installation. Get one here.
Infill scares you. One of the final steps when installing a synthetic lawn is to apply “infill”. This product filters down into the turf, weighing it down, making it look better and feel softer on your feet. But you don’t live in a cave so you heard about the dangers of infill. The good news is that the “crumb rubber” infill that caused problems is no longer in use. We use a ceramic coated sand product that is totally safe.
You have south facing windows…. that get full sun in the summer. This is a tough one. The sun may reflect off the windows and melt some of the turf! This situation is common enough that it is not covered by turf manufacturer’s warranties. It is also common enough that we can usually design a way around it.
