How Do You Repair A Ripped Lawn Chair

If you have a ripped lawn chair, there are a few things you can do to repair it. First, if the rip is small, you can try using a piece of tape to hold it together. If the rip is bigger, you may need to sew it together with a needle and thread. You could also use glue to hold the fabric together. Finally, if the hole is really big, you may need to replace the fabric altogether.

Choosing New Sling Chair Fabric

The Southern Company carries over 100 replacement fabrics that can be used on any of the premium patio furniture brands. Having this range of quality fabrics available for reslinging means you get a virtually new patio set once weve done our job.

Consider the feel that youd like to create with your furniture this time around. Maybe you chose a neutral fabric when you bought your furniture , and now youd like to try something flashier. Do you need your new fabrics to fit in with existing design elements, or are you ready for a complete makeover? Is your patio furniture used mainly by adults, or are children and grandchildren regularly in the mix? All of these factors will have an impact on the fabric you ultimately choose.

Once a few designs have been picked out, take some time to actually imagine your furniture refinished in the new fabric. Will you still be loving that royal blue four years from now? Is the striped fabric elegant enough for your space? Is the neutral gray-brown shade tasteful or just boring? Ask for feedback from others before you commit.

Wrought Iron Patio Furniture Repair

Wrought iron outdoor furniture, such as the stunning vintage Molla collections, can also be restored to new life. The process includes careful sandblasting to remove every last speck of the old paint. Next, a powder primer is electrostatically applied, followed by the final powder coat. The furniture is then cured in a 400°F oven, resulting in a beautiful, durable finish that makes your wrought iron patio furniture look brand new again.

How To Remove & Install Slings

How to Replace Fabric on a Patio Sling Chair

Installation can vary by brand or model. Study the construction of your furniture before you begin. Patio Furniture Supplies makes tight slings that are as wide as from groove to groove in the sling rails. The fabric that goes into the grooves has to be stretched in. Install a sling into the bolted rails one side at a time and reattach the loose rail to the frame using an electric drill, stretching the fabric to achieve a tight sling. The slings will have too much tension to tighten the bolts by hand.

1. Remove the old sling.a. Remove the sling rail caps being careful not to scratch the finish.b. Cut the sling down the middle.c. Stand to the side of the chair, and hold the back of the sling with one hand and the seat of the sling with the other. Push down on the sling at the back, and pull the sling at the seat until it is removed from the sling rail. d. Remove any support bar that is wedged between the two sling rails. Not all models have support bars.

  • Wendy Lundgren on May 03, 2020

We have 4 swivel patio chairs and the fabric is getting pretty worn. Can they be redone with more fabric.?

  • Sandi on May 18, 2015I have almost identical patio chairs and we easily replaced the seat fabric when it got old and ripped. Take each metal side rail off – they just unscrew from underneath – and slide out the fabric. There’s a thick rubberish spline holding it in. Use the old torn seat to cut out new ones and hem the sides just as the old ones were . Note that there’s a distinct front and back in the fabric seat, this caused me problems initially because I didn’t notice until I tried to put new seats together. I found outdoor upholstery remnants at fabricguru.com at very inexpensive prices. Make sure to leave the side hems open at the top and bottom so you can slip the spline back in. Then slide the new seats back onto the seat side rail. Truthfully this was the hardest part since the fabric wanted to bunch up but just persevere! Screw the rails back onto the chair and enjoy!
  • Hope Williams on May 18, 2015Hi Judith. Go to JoAnns on capital Circle and find a close out or discontinued outdoor fabric screen material. then just replace it. Get coupons off their website too. And wait till a sale is going on. This is key to saving the big bucks. PS. Just up the road from you in T’ville.
  • Ida Granny on May 18, 2015I replaced my chairs with yarn, ” like on the old lawn chairs” . Upholstery would be the easy way to go. Post when you get them done.
  • How Do I Fix My Patio Chair Webbing

If your patio chair webbing is torn or frayed, you can easily replace it with new webbing. Youll need to remove the old webbing first, which is usually held in place with staples. Once the old webbing is removed, simply staple the new webbing in place. Make sure to choose a durable, weather-resistant webbing for best results.

Follow These Steps To Install Seating Slings

Lubricate the RailsThere is a lot of friction involved when dragging a sling fabric through the side rail channels. First lubricate the channels with soapy water to make the job easier. Another option that works well is to rub a cake of bar soap over the edges of the sling, where the spline is located. CAUTION: Dont use WD-40 as in this picture!

Insert the Sling into the First ChannelFeed one end of the sling into the channel of the first side rail. Obviously, the hemmed edges should be behind/under the chair. Note: Do not cut the plastic spline to length until after the sling is completely installed.

When the sling is inserted into both side rails, it should look something like this.

Do Not Trim the SplinesThe ends of the splines should be left sticking out of the channels, because they tend to move when stretching the sling fabric in the side rails. Cut them off later.

Mount the Sling Rails into the FrameStart by loosely bolting one of the side rails into position. Screw the bolts/nuts only enough to hold the rails in position so the other side can be mounted before tightening

Insert the Spreader BarsThis can be the most difficult stage of replacing your slings. We have a spreader tool for rent to make this easier, but another option is to use two pieces of 2×4, cut long enough so together they are the right length, with a hinge attached in the middle. You can also purchase a sash clamp with a reversible end to make it push out instead of in.

    How To Repair Patio Chairs

The first thing you need to do to repair patio chairs is to lay your chair on the ground to find the bolt holding the seat in place.

There should be one towards the front and one towards the rear of the chair. Using a socket wrench, remove both of the bolts.

Place the bolts aside, do not misplace them! You will see that there is a cord inside each side of the mesh seat. This cord sits inside the track keeping the mesh patio chair seat in place. Or at least it should.

Now that both bolts are removed you can easily remove the seat portion from the base frame.

    Remove the old cord.

Is your patio furniture starting to show signs of wear and tear? Are you noticing that the fabric on your mesh sling chairs is looking faded and worn, and maybe the chair frame is chipped? You may start to think it would be easier and possibly even cheaper to buy new furniture than to repair your existing sling chair fabric and frame.

This is not necessarily a bad thing! Trends come and go, and you may find yourself tired of the color or pattern of your sling chair fabric after so many years. Changing the fabric of your patio chairs to a fresh color choice or new pattern opens up many new possibilities for the look and feel of your deck, yard, or other outdoor space.
