Longer Grass Means Fewer Chemicals

Satisfying Tall Grass Mowing | Overgrown Lawn Makeover + Stripes

All too many homeowners react to the presence of weeds assuming it’s necessary to “get out the chemicals.” This is a myth that lawn care services and chemical manufacturers are all too ready to perpetuate.

In reality, though, the reason for the weeds is very often a lawn that has been stressed by mowing it too short. The solution may be ingeniously simple: let the grass grow to a longer height and keep it there.

What If My Grass Is Long

Our base pricing is valid for grass up to 6 inches in total length. Most lawns with routine maintenance each week grow less than this amount. If you have an actively growing lawn or have not had your lawn mowed in a while, it may be over 6 inches when the crew comes to perform that service.

We require our crews to provide a completed, professional job to our clients. To do this in tall grass, we may have to mow over the property twice, slow down, and bag or rake up clippings. Lawns between 6-9 may be mowed on your regular service day, but will incur additional charges to account for the extra labor and equipment wear. Usually, this is twice the base rate for that visit.

Our weekly lawn mowing teams cannot service lawns over 9 tall. We consider this field mowing, and can send a particular crew to your home to mow it down to the proper length. Pricing for field mowing varies, so please ask before signing up for it. It is important to note, the measurement our crew takes on your lawn is at an average looking location, on the day of service, and not the day you sign up for service.

How Much Do Lawn Care Services Cost In New Zealand

Then, we get to the nuts and bolts. How much do lawn mowing services cost in New Zealand? Thats the million-dollar question.

Every lawn care provider will establish different costs that work for them. Some set their prices based on whether they use a ride-on or push mower if they have to travel out of their way, and the condition of the lawn.

A small lawn can be in the vicinity of $25, $30, $40, or $50. A medium or large yard, on the other hand, can be over $50 including or excluding GST, depending on how the person you hired had structured their invoice or quote.

Pricing can also differ depending on whether its a one-off lawn mowing service or you become a regular customer.

Pricing may also vary and become a set hourly rate if you have a property with steep slopes or you require mowing services on a lifestyle block, farm, field, business, or somewhere other than your residential address. Its worth talking to your local lawn care expert about their rates and conditions for service. As a bare minimum, you can expect a charge of $25 including or excluding GST, and with possible travel costs.

Diy Or Hire A Lawn Care Expert In My Area

When youre trying to find average lawn care pricing in New Zealand, you might start to wonder whether its a task you can tackle yourself. However, can you really put a price on convenience? Actually, you can, and youd be surprised at how little difference there is between hiring someone to mow your lawns, and doing them yourself.

You can put a reasonably hefty price tag on your time. Any time you spend mowing your lawns is time youre not spending with your family and friends. You also have to find a lawnmower for sale thats reasonably affordable, and that process is not easy either.

Once you buy the mower, you have to purchase fuel for it, pay for tuning costs, and servicing as well. If there are any mower repairs, then you have to do these too. And what about storage? The average property size is only getting smaller, which means that fewer people have garages and tool sheds in which to put their mower. No one wants to end up with a lawnmower in their laundry or living room.

It all sounds like a bit of a hassle, doesnt it? It might be easier to find someone in lawn care to hire who can do the job without you having to lift a finger.

The contractors do clean up afterwards, they have to submit photos of the lawn they mowed before they are paid and no one wants to take a photo of a grass covered driveway and submit it for payment. Since these are contractors the equipment varies, most have blowers or other devices to clear grass off the sidewalk and driveway.

How Often Should You Hire Someone To Mow Your Lawns

The million-dollar question is: how often should you mow your lawns? Or, how often should you get someone in to mow your lawns? There are many deciding factors in this question. It can depend on where you live, your climate, the weather conditions for specific days, weeks, and months, and how neglected your lawn has been in the past.

Lawns tend to thrive in spring and summer, so weekly or fortnightly is a common request by homeowners. In the colder months of the year, monthly is even more common. Lawn care service providers will often inform you of their schedule requirements and what they recommend for your lawn.

Even if youre on a set schedule, you should also feel confident to call your local lawnmower to see if they can squeeze you in more often, or for a one-off cut in-between.

The frequency of their services can also depend on your lawns height. If it has been some time since you last mowed the lawns yourself, and they are now overgrown, then it can many regular lawn mowing sessions to bring them back to a manageable standard. If you cut them down to a reasonable height in one go, you may be damaging your lawns beyond easy repair.

When you make contact with your chosen contractor, talk to them about your lawn height. They can then be more accurate with their pricing and outline how they can combat the problem for a picture-perfect yard.

Ok What’s The Catch $19 Mowing My Son Wants $25 How Can You Mow For $19

We use a relatively new technique called “crowdsourcing”.

Wikipedia describes it as “the act of taking tasks traditionally performed by an employee or contractor, and outsourcing them to a group of people or community, through an “open call” to a large group of people …”. That’s exactly what we do. When a order is placed it’s automatically sent to the mowers we have that want to mow within that zip code. Whoever is closest and available accepts the order, mows the lawn, submits photographs as proof that the job was done satisfactorily and is then paid immediately over the internet.

Obviously this is less expensive to operate then the traditional lawn care business who has a local business location, a fleet of trucks and equipment, and operators who answer calls and create daily routes. While the traditional mower working for a business may receive $8 to $10 an hour, our mowers receive nearly 90% of each order, with the remaining 10% going towards credit card processing fees and maintaining the website. This makes LawnMowingOnline very desirable to anyone who wishes to make a living from mowing lawns, and the more mowers we have the more areas we can offer services.

Not Mowing Often Enough

This is not to suggest that you dont mow regularly while your lawn grows in the warm months. Mowing so that you only need to take off a third or less of the height of your grass is a good rule to follow, as it keeps your grass blades at a healthy height and makes mowing easier.

Over mowing to compensate for a shaggy lawn means too-short grass and excessive clippings. While we normally recommend leaving grass clippings on the lawn to provide nutrients to the turf as they decompose, you shouldnt do that if mowing has left large clumps or a thick layer. Excessive mulch clippings left on a lawn can block sunlight from reaching the grass beneath it, creating yellow areas that tempt people into using too much fertilizer to compensate.
