If there are small patches of clover in your lawn, then a good way to get rid of them will be to use nitrogen rich organic fertilizer instead of using chemical fertilizer. These fertilizers are slow release fertilizers and will slowly kill off the clover due to nitrogen overdose. Some examples of organic fertilizers are liquid kelp, bone meal, blood meal, cow manure, earthworm castings, etc. Or you can use manufactured organic fertilizers as well. The benefit of using organic nitrogen rich fertilizers is that they dont harm your landscape in any way, and they encourage healthy lawn growth in the long run, but the downside is that they act slowly. Therefore, they can only be used when the weed coverage is small enough that you can afford to wait for the organic fertilizer to do its job.
Depriving Clover Of Oxygen
Another natural way to get rid of clover is to deprive it of oxygen and sunlight and not allowing it to grow. To do this, place a plastic sheet or garbage bag over the clover patch, securing the corners so it wont blow away. This should kill the weeds in a couple of weeks, but dont use this method long-term or the surrounding grass could be damaged as well. This is a good method for larger patches of clover.
This method is also helpful to get rid of other types of weeds like crabgrass that may be on your lawn. Its effective if you have the time to put into it.
What Do Clovers In Our Lawns Indicate

What Is A Clover
When we say Clover we are not talking about a single species but about an entire genus called Trifolium. It includes about 300 annual and perennial species. In the broader classification, the genus Trifolium belongs to the pea family . As we will discover shortly, that gives clovers some superpowers.
Side note: Wood sorrels are often mistaken for clovers hence they are also known by the common name false shamrock. Although they look alike, they belong to a completely different plant family and are more commonly garden weeds than lawn weeds.

Mowing The Lawn Higher
Some people may think that mowing closer to the ground will get rid of the clover, but that is only a temporary fix. Clover has a shallow root system and grows close to the ground. If you mow your grass higher, the grass will block out the light and not allow it to reach the clover and hopefully cause the clover to die. When you mow your grass under 3 inches, it stresses the grass and gives the clover the advantage. So mow higher and allow the grass to grow long and overtake the clover plants.

Use Organic Weed Killer
Organic weed killer might sound too good to be true when it comes to controlling lawn weeds, but a new one was recently introduced for clover control. Adios, an organic weed killer, will weaken and kill the clover in your lawn without harming any of your grass.
To use, spray Adios directly on the clover. As the clover weakens and dies, the grass will take over where the clover once was. Make sure to water your lawn correctly. If you apply Adios to a stressed lawn from lack of water or extreme heat, there is a higher risk the product will kill your grass as well as the clover.

Clover is a winter-germinating weed, and will thrive and spread in spring when soil temperatures are mild and warm and plenty of sunlight reaches the soil surface.
Clover can often be quite difficult to get rid of, as it reseeds itself every year and will continue to come back. It spreads easily in a few different ways, and can even propagate from its own clippings.

Your lawn has low nitrogen levels: Clover is part of the legume family, which means its a plant that fixes the nitrogen of the soil by producing its own nitrogen. Therefore, when the nitrogen levels of the soil are low, clover will thrive in such a lawn as it does not require nitrogen to grow while your grass does. Low levels of nitrogen in the soil means your grass will be weak, but clover will remain strong. You can use nitrogen rich organic fertilizer or cornmeal to fix this issue. If the clover has taken over a major part of your lawn, then you might need to use a quick-release chemical nitrogen fertilizer for a more immediate result.
The pH of your soil is unbalanced: Most turfgrass prefer a pH range of 6.0 to 7.0 to grow healthily, but there are no such restrictions for some species of clovers. Cornmeal gluten is a by-product of wet corn milling. It was originally used to feed domestic animals such as cattle, poultry, fish, and is even incorporated into dog food.
However, corn gluten meal is also well-known as a natural substitute for pre-emergent herbicides those that target the weed seeds.
How does corn gluten work?
When you apply corn meal gluten to your lawn, as it degrades, it releases compounds called dipeptides. These organic dipeptides cause seeds to dry out, preventing them from sprouting or developing normally.
It means that it will affect the weeds that are yet to sprout but wont damage the already established grass. However, it will also affect the seeds of any established weeds, preventing them from reappearing the next year.
Cornmeal gluten is a natural clover killer but is also effective against sprouting other well-known weeds such as crabgrass, chickweed, and dandelion. Additionally, it provides some nitrogen, which clover hates.
How to apply corn gluten?

How To Get Rid Of Clover In Your Lawn
Remove clover as soon as you see it. It can spread quickly by seed and creeping stems. If the amount of clover in your lawn is minimal, its best to remove it by hand. Loosen the soil to make it easier to remove the entire clover root. If theres more clover than is practical for hand removal, consider spot treating with an herbicide.
If you decide to treat the entire lawn, a broadleaf herbicide application in fall is very effective. Make sure the herbicide is safe to use on your variety/ies of grass, otherwise you may kill the grass along with the clover. Always follow manufacturer instructions and community regulations.
Covering Clover With Plastic Sheets
Covering clover with a dark plastic sheet such as a garbage bag will deprive it of two key elements sunlight and oxygen. Additionally, if it is in a sunny position, the plastic will sort of steam-cook the plants beneath it.
The method is practical only for larger, homogenous clover patches, as all plants will be affected by covering, including the surrounding turf.

S To Getting Rid Of Clover Manually
If you want to manually remove clover from your yard permanently, it will be necessary for you to remove the entire root system of the weed as well as the weed itself. You can do this with a spade or with your hands. Carefully loosen the soil all around the plant, and then pull the plant, along with its roots, out of the ground. You will want to make sure you get all the roots otherwise, the plant will just grow back. While this root removal can be a tedious and time-consuming task, when done correctly, it is a surefire way to reduce clover once and for all.
Another way to manually remove clover is to kill it by cutting off its access to sunlight and air. This could be done by covering the clover patch with a dark-colored trash bag or another type of plastic sheeting. Secure its edges to keep it in place. Make sure you havent covered any of your grass in the process, or it will be damaged or killed as well. In a few weeks, your clover problem will be solved.
You can also use a DIY mixture to spot treat the clumps of clover in your yard. Combine vinegar with a little dish soap and pour the concoction into a spray bottle. Spray directly onto the clover. Again, you will want to take care not to involve nearby grass or other plants in this treatment, or they will be destroyed along with the clover.
