Why Do I Need A Professional Lawn Care Company
One big reason is that you’re hiring an expert who can diagnose problems. We can tell you whether or not the problem with your lawn is a disease, an insect or simply a lack of water, and that can be challenging for you, the homeowner, to do alone. In addition, when you hire Weed Man, you’re buying a guarantee for results, and that’s not always the case when you’re buying products right off the shelf. We can offer our customers this type of commitment because we know we’re applying the right amount of the right products at the right time, and do-it-yourselfers can’t be sure of that. We’ll keep coming out until the lawn meets your satisfaction. Plus, putting down the right product at the right rate and at the right time is especially important for many lawn problems, including crabgrass, and in some areas of the country, you may have to apply an herbicide twice to get control. We’ll make sure that happens.
How Long After Using Roundup Can Pets Be In The Yard
Using commercial pesticides in your yard is generally considered safe as long as you follow the instructions on the label. Still, many common pesticides – like Roundup – pose risks to your four-legged companions. If you use Roundup in areas where your pets romp, have a backup area for them to relieve themselves while the product dries.
Fleas And Ticks Can Bring More Than Itches And Scratches
Fleas and ticks can be hard to spot in your yard, so you might not know they are there until you start to see signs from your pets. It starts with itching and scratching. You might even see some hair missing or have unusually tired cats or dogs. Pets allergic to fleas may also have red skin or bumps. With ticks, they grasp onto your dogs fur or your pant leg as you walk by. Initially, you may not even know theyre there. You can usually find them if you check your pets skin. Ticks are dark and circular. If you dont see ticks on your skin, you might feel swelling, pain, or even a headache once theyve been on your skin for awhile, alerting you to their presence. The worst part about fleas and ticks is they can bring something a lot worse than itches and scratches. They are also a common source of some pretty serious illnesses. Ticks can spread Lyme disease. And fleas can bring typhus or cat-scratch fever, among other things. This is a big reason why using a safe way to kill fleas and ticks in your yard can also save you from the diseases they carry.

Avoid Accidental Drifting Runoff Or Spills
Avoid applying fertilizers on windy days when products might blow or drift into other areas. Sweep excess fertilizer granules off hard surfaces, such as sidewalks, driveways and curbs, and back onto lawns to prevent runoff into storm water systems and groundwater supplies. Clean up spills immediately to limits risks and protect against fertilizer burn.
Check with your veterinarian about fertilizer products and your family’s animals.

Fleas And Ticks In Your Yard: A Closer Look
First, lets talk about these pests. Fleas are wingless insects with long, flat bodies that feed on blood from pets, wild animals, and people. Ticks are actually considered arachnids. They are dark brown or black and, like fleas, also seek blood from animals and people. Drinking blood actually allows them to produce and lay more tick eggs. Both pests become active when daytime Maryland temperatures remain consistently at or above 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Also at this time, more wild animals start foraging and moving about — think deer, rabbits, squirrels, mice, possum, etc. And fleas and ticks hitch rides on these critters as they move in and out of your yard. Then once fleas and ticks go from your yard to your pet and into your house, they can quickly make homes in carpets and furniture. Thats why finding a safe way to kill fleas and ticks in your yard is important.
Exact Answer: 24 Hours To A Few Weeks
How long should you wait after a lawn treatment before cutting the grass? You should wait 24 to 48 hours after treatment before mowing. This is because broadleaf weed control takes at least 24 hours to translocate throughout the plants vascular system. The herbicide will not be absorbed into the plant if you cut the grass too short.

Who Registers Pesticides In The United States
EPA and state departments register or license pesticides for use in the United States. EPA receives its authority to register pesticides under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act . States are authorized to regulate pesticides under FIFRA and under state pesticide laws. States may place more restrictive requirements on pesticides than EPA. Pesticides must be registered both by EPA and the state before distribution. The United States has one of the most stringent pesticide regulatory systems in the world. The safety and effectiveness of each product is thoroughly evaluated by agency toxicologists to ensure products meet strict safety standards. In most cases, pesticides are subject to more testing than pharmaceutical drugs. Professional applicators are highly trained and adhere to all state regulations concerning pesticide use. The pest management products that are available to the homeowner for use on lawns are virtually the same products that commercial lawn care companies use. Like other products used in and around the home such as paints, cleaners, medicines and fuels, pesticides should always be used responsibly, and only when needed. When used and stored according to their directions, they present a low risk to the safety of people, pets and the environment.

So he teamed up with other scientists to investigate how much weed killer might come off the grass while it was wet and whether those chemicals might go from plant to pooch.
First, Murphy and his group had to find out how long herbicide sprays can be brushed off with casual contact. They applied the same amount of three different kinds of weed killers to different patches of grass.
But the amount of chemical coming off grass might change if the grass was wet or dry. So the scientists added herbicides to green grass that was wet or dry. To find out if it made a difference whether the plants were dead or alive, the researchers also applied weed killer to brown grass.
Afterward, the scientists placed pieces of cloth on wooden blocks. They dragged the blocks across each patch of grass to see how much herbicide came off. They first did this a few minutes after the spraying. Then, they dragged clean cloth blocks across the area one hour, one day, two days and three days after the weed killer had been applied.
From lawn to dog
Most dogs including half of those whose owners did not treat their lawns had herbicides in their urine. Among dogs whose owners did spray weed killers, 14 out of 25 animals had chemicals in their urine before the latest spray of their lawn. After spraying, 19 out of 25 dogs were excreting the chemicals.

What Kind Of Lawn Fertilizer Is Safe For Dogs
Here are a few types of safe fertilizers for pets: Seaweed Seaweed is rich in nitrogen. You can buy it ground up but its more common as a spray-on liquid. Fish emulsion While fish emulsion is a great fertilizer option, remember that this is a quick-release fertilizer and it can burn plants if you use too much.
Fertilizer Is Often Applied Along With Weed Control & Insecticide Treatments
Throughout the year, fertilizer treatments are often applied along with weed control treatments and insecticides, which can also cause reactions in pets and children. Please consult with your lawn care company to inform yourself of the weed controls and insecticides that are used on your property and the rates at which they are being applied. They will also provide you with re-entry intervals to make sure best practices are followed.
While there is some time restriction on how long to wait after these treatments, keep in mind that these treatments also work to keep your lawn safe for kids and pets. Some weeds are poisonous when consumed and lawn insects, such as ticks, can create a hazard area as well.

Weed B Gone Etc Use Around Dogs
What is a general rule in regard to using a product like Weed B Gone for weed control in my yard in which my dog uses? My dog stays in the house, but does frequent the outdoors. Can I use ORTHO WEED B GONE and expect for my dog to remain safe when rolling in the grass, eating grass, etc? If so, after what period of time? The ORTHO instructions and FAQ are very lacking in this area.
Thank you in advance.
Sigh… alrighty, I was not looking for a sermon. I’ll consider myself and/or my pets and family members in whatever order I wish. I simply wanted to know if the active poison in the product was enough to hurt my dog after I sprayed it on. My family typically does not roll playfully in the grass or chew on the grass when relaxing in the sun. Of course if they did, that would be their choice and additional considerations would have to follow.
It looks like dogs fed the chemical on a regular basis could die. My assumption would be that it is relatively safe for my dog, but since he does chew on grass, I might have to take a pass.
I would ask what a more safe removal chemical might be because doing our yard by hand is back breaking, but I think I’ll go elsewhere.

What Do The Experts Say About 24
The experts at the Environmental Protection Agency extensively evaluate all pest control products. 2,4-D, the product that is commonly used for weed control is among the most highly tested products in the world. The product has been used on lawns, golf courses, parks and other turf areas for thirty years. When applied by trained technicians and according to label directions, it provides effective control of broadleaf weeds without posing an unreasonable risk to humans, pets or the environment. At least twelve independent scientific panels have reviewed both the toxicology and epidemiology data packages of 2,4-D in the last ten years. All have concluded that no cause and effect relationship has been established between 2,4-D and cancer and/or that the continued use of 2,4-D poses no unreasonable risk to man or the environment. Copies of the reports can be seen on the internet www.24d.org. Consequently, 2,4-D has been the most researched herbicide on earth with thousands of studies having been performed on it in the last 50 years. Before a pest control product is applied to a turf area it is diluted according to product label directions. For example, commonly used weed control products are most often highly diluted with water before being applied by a professional applicator.

Children Should Be Kept Off A Yard For 24
It’s no secret that kids love playing outside and getting into messes, but should they be on your lawn if it receives routine fertilization treatments? After the fertilizer has been completely absorbed into the soil, yes. It’s generally recommended to wait about 24-72 hours after a fertilizer application before letting your kids go back onto the grass and to also ensure your lawn is watered well before the kids go back to playing in the grass. This not only keeps them safe from chemicals, but it also allows your lawn to absorb the nutrients without being disturbed. The time window depends on the product being applied, so it is best to check with your lawn care professional for information.
Organic fertilization treatments are generally safer for kids, as they do not contain herbicides or insecticides, but it’s still recommended that you give your grass time to absorb those treatments as well.
What Can I Do To Make My Lawn Healthier
Proper watering and mowing are the two biggest concerns. You need to mow at least once a week during growth periods. When mowing, sharp mower blades are extremely important. Rusty or dull blades rip the grass instead of cutting it, providing opportunities for problems, such as diseases, to infest the lawn. As for irrigation, you don’t want to over water because that will set the grass up for disease problems as well. At the same time, underwatering stresses the turf and creates opportunities for weeds to grow. Be sure that your sprinkler system covers the lawn well and irrigates deeply to encourage deep root growth and makes the turf less susceptible to drought. Lastly, as your landscape develops, keep an eye on trees and shrubs and make sure they remain properly pruned or thinned to allow sufficient light to reach the lawn.
