Are Gas Mowers Better Than The 40

My Ryobi 40-Volt Lawn Mower 2 Year Review | Is It Any Good?

Yes and No. Gas mowers are better for large lawns since a battery-powered mower may run for 20 to 45 minutes with each battery charge, depending on the grass height and thickness of the lawn. However, there are more suitable for the battery or electric mowers for small to medium-sized yards of up to 14,000 square feet.

Also, a gas mower would be the best option for people who want the convenience of a self-propelled or a riding mower or those who cannot push the heavy or more oversized mowers. However, if you are a homeowner who doesn’t fit in any of the above categories, opting for an electric or battery-powered model is the best choice as its pros outweigh the cons.

Should You Buy The Ryobi 40

The RYOBI 40-Volt 20-inch cordless mower is one of the best electric lawn mowers for homeowners with small lawns who have limited storage but need efficient cutting power. The added value of being capable of using up to two batteries that work with other RYOBI lawn equipment makes this electric lawn mower well worth considering. The fact that it isnt self-propelling could be a major drawback for some buyers though.

Battery Life: Long Enough For A Modest Yard

The basic RYOBI Self-Propelled Mower comes with one 40-volt, lithium-ion battery, but has two spots to put it in. That way, if you have a large property to trim, youll get double the power. We used the mower to landscape approximately 3,500-square-feet of lawn, and 30-minutes later, the battery had dipped to just under half-full, which means it lasted longer than the projected 35-minute time frame the product information claimed. The power level can be checked with a built-in power bar when you insert the battery into the charger, which comes with the mower.

The mower has a nice battery cover to protect the power source from moisture and flying debris. Its also a great place to keep an extra battery in case you want a backup. You can also keep the lithium ion battery on the charger when not in use, and if you need to juice it, it takes about 3.5 hours to get wholly amped up.

What Popular Lawn Mowers Are Not Made In The Usa

Snapper Snapper assembles some of their gas-powered mowers in the US, but most of the parts for those mowers come from foreign sources. Also, all of their electric mowers are manufactured overseas.

Toro Toro is another popular lawn mower brand that many assume is American-made but is actually just American-assembled in Wisconsin, Florida and elsewhere. While some of the parts for Toro mowers are sourced in the USA, most, including the motors for their powered mowers, are produced in Japan.

Craftsman For decades Craftsman was considered about as red, white, and blue a brand as you could find. Today, Craftsmans original parent company, Sears, is on its last legs and the Craftsman brand has been sold off to Stanley, Black & Decker. Like Toro mowers, Craftsman mowers are mostly assembled in the USA from parts made elsewhere.

Ryobi Battery Powered Lawn Mower Review

As you can see from the photos above, our lawn isn’t exactly a lush, green carpet of grass right now. Despite the rumors you may have heard about Seattle being rainy, we actually have a drought period every summer! Our grass goes dormant and brown until the rain faucet turns back on in the fall. This was the first time I’ve mowed the lawn in over a month, other than cutting down the dandelions!

Cons Of The Ryobi 36v Cordless Lawn Mower

Ryobi lawn mower runs good without a blade

Even though this Ryobi cordless battery mower has a great range of advantages, the design does not come without its faults too.

For example, this Ryobi mower in particular is sold as a base model, meaning you would have to purchase the battery and charger separately at an additional cost. The mower is also quite heavy considering its compact size and is not self-propelled, so you would have to prepared to push a more weighted mower.

  • You would have to buy the battery and charger individually.
  • Heavyweight despite compact design.

First Impressions Of The Ryobi 21 Lawnmower

Last year I had the opportunity to review the 21 SMART TREK self propelled lawnmower from Ryobi. I found this model to have several lacking areas. When I began evaluating the new 21 40-Volt cordless model, I was pleasantly surprised to find that this new 21 40-Volt model was greatly improved.

The overall construction of the mower has a very solid feel. The wheelbase is more compact than others at 65.15. This gave the Ryobi mower excellent handling. The mower deck as well as the handle assembly are all metal which contribute to the solid feel. However, the mower is pretty heavy. At 79.2 Lbs. it was one of the heaviest mowers we tested. That weight was concentrated on the motor housing and centered on the deck which gave the mower good balance.

Different Types Of Ryobi Lawn Mowers

Ryobi gas powered mowers are ideal for those with large yards, large lots, and a small budget. These lawnmowers offer easy start-up and shut-down features for a quick and easy cleanup. Their electricity powered mowers feature a long-lasting battery that allows the mower to continue running for up to five hours.

If youre looking for a battery-powered model, you should opt for the Ryobi LCX or Ryobi RC. These models are great for cutting any type of lawn. Whether you prefer to cut one lawn at a time or cover a large amount of ground, Ryobi offers a great option for you.

Ryobi electric lawnmowers can also do the job. These models require electricity to start up and are great for those who want an environmentally-friendly, battery-operated mower.

Controls Ergonomics And Lighting

Ryobi RY401110 40V Brushless 20" Lawn Mower

The Ryobi features two fairly standard control panels on either side of the operator. The switchgear feels sturdy and unlikely to break soon. The mower features cruise control as well which is useful for those long patches of land, and you can even charge your phone while mowing thanks to the built-in charger.

As far as ergonomics go, the chair is placed pretty high and provides great cushioning and support, making the Ryobi ideal for protracted jobs. I wouldve liked the steering to be more angled towards me, but I guess Im nitpicking.

I found the lighting on the Ryobi excellent for mowing your lawn before the break of dawn.

The two thin strips of LED lights do not seem like much, but theyre incredibly bright and do an excellent job of illuminating your path.

Care And Storage: Handle Folds Down For Easy Stowing

To stow the mower, fold the handle down and over the body to make a neat rectangle approximately 12-inches by 30-inches. Then, its easy to store under a worktable, in the corner, or wherever its convenient to shove until the next time you need to cut the grass. Just make sure its in a dry, clean spot and out of reach of children and either in a vertical or horizontal position with the battery chamber on top.

But, before you put it away, make sure to take off the grass catcher by lifting it by the handle and empty any greenery out of it. Its good to also dust out the mulching plug if you used it so no stalks dry out inside. Then replace the bag before folding and storing.

Dont use any solvents when wiping this machine clean. Because its made of plastic, albeit heavy-duty plastic, many commercial cleaners can damage the body. Instead take a clean, dry cloth and rub away any dirt, grease or dust. Also check the bolts to make sure everything is tight and ready for the next mowing adventure.

Are Electric Lawn Mowers Any Good

First things first, lets talk about whether or not buying an electric lawn mower is a good idea. As it turns out, CR recommends several electric lawn mowers. These mowers are best for lawns that are less than 12 an acre and, because theyre electric, are also more eco-friendly than their gas-powered counterparts. Electric lawn mowers tend to be quieter too.

The bad news is that electric lawn mowers are typically more expensive. Unfortunately, though, there is a reason that electric lawn mowers are more expensive. In fact, according to CR, you can blame their high price on the cost of their lithium-ion battery. The good news is that prices are trending downward, and you can score an electric lawn mower for roughly $300 or less.

Ryobi Mower Long Term Review

After three years of use, and extensive research on the competition, I believe the Ryobi 40-volt cordless lawn mower is the best mower for the money, for people with small lawns. My mower is the RY40170 20 brushless mower. It came included with two 4 amp hour batteries, is capable of mulching and bagging, only weighs 44 lbs , and comes with a 5 year warranty. It has seven cutting height adjustments that you can easily adjust with a single lever and the handles fold down flat making it super easy to store. With a robust 40 volt ecosystem, its batteries can also be used to power other Ryobi lawn equipment, such as a string trimmer and blower.

Are Ryobi Battery Lawn Mowers Any Good

Last Updated on November 9, 2021 by the staff of TheAllElectricLawn

Well I guess I am a little partial here, but if you were to ask me are RYOBI battery lawn mowers any good, I would give a resounding, yes. I personally own two RYOBI lawn mowers the 16inch 40v push mower and the 100Ah 42 zero turn. I enjoy using both of the mowers to handle the cutting duties at my home.

While I am not a full fledge dyed in neon green/yellow RYOBI fanatic, I do own quite a few RYOBI hand tools and outdoor power tools which I use in and around my house on a regular basis.

In the spring of 2019, I was in desperate need of replacing my aging Husquvarna gas riding lawn mower. At that point, I decided I needed and wanted to make the switch to battery powered lawn mower and battery powered lawn equipment in general.

I personally made the switch to all electric lawn equipment near the end of the spring of 2019. I ordered both of the RYOBI mowers from Home Depot , and they arrived within a week or so. I have been very pleased with both mowers and couldnt be happier with my decision.
