You can also use herbicides for this purpose, but if you are concerned about the use of chemicals on your property, try natural methods first like mowing it down with the lawnmower and then covering the ground with soil afterwards.

Can You Mix Baking Soda And Vinegar To Kill Weeds
The Acetic acid found in vinegar kills most weed including dandelions by taking out moisture from their leaves. Vinegar is also a 100% natural product making it an environmentally friendly home remedy. It is produced through the fermentation of apples, grapes, or grains. Using apple, you will get a cider which can also be used to eradicate weeds.
With the strength of vinegar and baking soda combined, you are sure to get a powerful natural weed killer. The mixture can either be a spray or formed into a paste. Both ways are as effective, depending on your preference.
- For a spray: Mix one part baking soda with two parts vinegar. First, pour baking soda into the sprayer then add vinegar. - For a paste: A paste of baking soda and vinegar can be administered to weeds deep inside sidewalk cracks. Use two parts baking soda and one part vinegar in a bowl. Use a big bowl, so the mixture doesnt rise over the edge. Once the bubbling settles, whip, then fill in the cracks with the paste or apply it to the foot of the weeds. Repeat the process every two days until all weeds are dead, and then wash away any paste residue with your garden hose.
Warning: this combination is so potent that it can harm the soil for nothing to ever re-grow on the patches.

Dollarweed is a perennial that spreads vegetatively by rhizomes . Applying a preemergence herbicide is recommended for regular bed maintenance but may provide limited control of this particular weed. Image , a postemergence herbicide lists dollarweed control with repeat applications, and it can be used around some ornamentals. Read the labels carefully for specific use applications. Glyphosate can be applied postemergence however, do not allow it to contact ornamentals because this chemistry is nonselective . Also keep in mind that many commercial products contain glyphosate, a slow-acting herbicide, plus a fast-acting herbicide like diquat. Glyphosate alone may be more effective at killing plant roots, but it requires time to translocate throughout the plant.

Find out if those straw-colored patches are dollar spotand what to do if they are.
When clusters of small, round, sunken patches of straw-colored grass about the size of a silver dollar start showing up on your otherwise beautiful green lawn, theres a good chance the culprit is a fungus called dollar spot. Once primarily known for wreaking havoc on golf courses and recreational turf, dollar spot has become a common lawn problem for homeowners as well.
Dollar spot affects most types of warm- and cool-season grasses, but especially fescues, ryegrasses, bentgrasses, bluegrasses, bermudagrasses, and zoysiagrasses. It tends to occur from late spring to late fall, especially after a period of extremely moist weather. Dollar spot favors high humidity and temperatures ranging from 60 to 85 degrees F.
The bad news: How you care for your lawn can actually stimulate the spread of dollar spot. The good news? Theres plenty you can do to help control it.

The cause: Mowing too closely.
Because they hold moisture on grass leaves, short lawns are more susceptible to dollar spot infection.

Sometimes, the only way to deal with dollarweed is by using chemical herbicide. For small quantities, you can spot spray them with a ready-to-use herbicide.
For larger areas of infestations, an effective approach is to Weed and Feed. This involves stressing the weeds by holding off watering of your lawn your grass will be able to handle this, but the dollarweed wont. After the two-week period, apply a weed-and-feed product, which will give your lawn much needed nutrition, but will kill off the dollarweed.
Herbicides should be applied while the dollarweed is still actively growing, especially in spring when young plants are at their most vulnerable. Check the label for specific application instructions for your type of grass.

A: Unfortunately, there’s no post-emergent herbicide that will target your weeds without risking your plants. You might try a pre-emergent herbicide to prevent the oxalis from reseeding. The best approach would be to mulch well after you hand-pull the weeds and then make sure that any new oxalis and dollar weed face stiff competition. Apply a foliar fertilizer to the pachysandra, and if there are any “dead” spaces in your bed, put in more pachysandra .

A: You could use this product in the spring, but it is too late to put out a fertilizer with that much nitrogen in it now. Lawn fertilization and lawn weed control are two separate activities that are often carried out at different times. There is no need to link them by using a weed and feed. The herbicide in Bonus S, Atrazine is excellent for dollarweed control. However, you just need to apply the Atrazine without the fertilizer. Buy a bottle of the herbicide and use it following label directions. As an added benefit, LSU AgCenter trials indicate you get better dollarweed control when you apply the Atrazine by itself, not combined with a fertilizer.
