Use Organic Weed Killer

How to Kill Clover in the Lawn (Easy Weed Control)

Organic weed killer might sound too good to be true when it comes to controlling lawn weeds, but a new one was recently introduced for clover control. Adios, an organic weed killer, will weaken and kill the clover in your lawn without harming any of your grass.

To use, spray Adios directly on the clover. As the clover weakens and dies, the grass will take over where the clover once was. Make sure to water your lawn correctly. If you apply Adios to a stressed lawn from lack of water or extreme heat, there is a higher risk the product will kill your grass as well as the clover.

Ideally, water your yard twice a week. Deep watering, where the grass receives one inch of water, is recommended. The perfect time to apply Adios is the day after a deep watering.

Get Rid Of Dandelions

To kill dandelions, be sure to tackle them in the fall, when nutrients are transferred from the leaves down to the roots . An organic and effective way to get rid of this invasive weed is to use vinegar. The acetic acid in it makes for an all-natural herbicide. Apply it directly onto the leaves of the weeds. To increase the strength of store-bought vinegar, boil it down before application. Youll want to pour the vinegar into a spray bottle and spray the effected area. Within a few hours, youll notice the leaves have withered and turned brown.

Things To Know Before You Start

Clover does best when planted in clay or sandy loam soils with a pH between 6 and 7. To find out your soils pH, use a soil test kit or a pH meter. If your soil isnt in this desirable range, you can adjust the pH using lime , or peat moss .

The best time to plant clover is after the last frost in spring, when rains will help you establish new crop and competing grasses havent yet taken hold of available nutrients. Fall planting may also be a possibility if you live in an area with mild autumn weather. Temperatures should remain above 40F for the clover to take hold before winter.

As noted above, lawn specialists recommend using both clover and grass seed to establish the healthiest lawn possible. However, dont spread these different types of seeds together. Since clover seed is so small and dense, and usually clumps together at the bottom of the spreader or seed bag, spreading with grass seed usually results in uneven coverage. Instead, determine your desired ratio of clover to grass and spread separately.

Remove clover as soon as you see it. It can spread quickly by seed and creeping stems. If the amount of clover in your lawn is minimal, its best to remove it by hand. Loosen the soil to make it easier to remove the entire clover root. If theres more clover than is practical for hand removal, consider spot treating with an herbicide.

If you decide to treat the entire lawn, a broadleaf herbicide application in fall is very effective. Make sure the herbicide is safe to use on your variety/ies of grass, otherwise you may kill the grass along with the clover. Always follow manufacturer instructions and community regulations.

What Do Clovers In Our Lawns Indicate

The presence of Clover in lawns can be an indicator of low Nitrogen levels in the soil.

Clover requires soil with LOW Nitrogen levels because this plant can pull its Nitrogen requirement from the air.

Lawns love Nitrogen in the soil, and thats why its so important to feed our lawns with Nitrogen in the form of Organic Lawn Fertilisers, Standard Lawn Fertilisers, or by leaving the clippings on the lawn after mowing.

As soon as lawn soils begin to lack Nitrogen the lawn will become in poor health. And a lawn in poor health will be highly prone to other weeds, pests and diseases, and will not have the necessary strength to fight off these infestations naturally by itself.

When we remember the important basic principle of prevention being better than the cure in Organic Lawn Care, we see the importance of keeping our lawns in optimum health so they dont suffer problems which may later require chemical treatments. So, lets get our lawn back to good health, and keep it there.

Prevent Oxygen And Sunlight

How To Get Rid Of Clover In Your Lawn

Clovers tend to grow and thrive in the presence of oxygen and sunlight. A natural solution to this is to prevent them from receiving this kind of oxygen and sunlight.

You can take a plastic sheet of any kind and use it to completely cover up the spots of clover in your lawn. It would be better if you do this for larger spots so that you do not end up removing any grass or plants too.

Make sure you place an object or weight onto the sheet to prevent it from opening up or flying off. Within a few weeks, this will remove the clovers from their respective spots.

7 Easy Ways to Get Rid of Clover in Your Yard ...

October 25, 2018// by Scott Smith

White clover is a very easy weed to recognise, and you may have spent countless childhood hours hunting for the four-leaf version. While that can be a fun challenge, eradicating a clover infestation from your lawn is not.

A common weed in Australia, clover has the very recognisable three green serrated leaves topped by white, ball-shaped flowers and creeping stems. Clover is a legume plant that draws nitrogen from the air to store in its roots. It spreads easily throughout lawns via stems attached to the soil which grow into new plants. Clover is a winter-germinating weed, and will thrive and spread in spring when soil temperatures are mild and warm and plenty of sunlight reaches the soil surface.

Clover can often be quite difficult to get rid of, as it reseeds itself every year and will continue to come back. It spreads easily in a few different ways, and can even propagate from its own clippings.

Should I Get Rid Of It On My Lawn

The simple answer would be a yes. You should get rid of clover immediately because it would disturb the grass. The lawn cannot be hardy, robust, and healthy.

If you want a more complicated answer, you do not have to know how to get rid of clover because it can be beneficial.

As said before, clover can prevent other weeds to grow. Then, this plant becomes a natural fertilizer.

Use A Natural Weed Killer

You can mix your own natural weed killer and apply it to the patch of lawn where you have clover.

The best type to use is the vinegar mixture. For you to get it right, mix 1 drop of dish soap and 1 cup of vinegar. Next, add 1 cup of water to it.

Shake the mixture thoroughly and pour it into a spray bottle. Now, you take it to the part of the lawn where the clover is growing. Spray it and make sure it gets all the clover.

The vinegar in the mixture will cause the leaves of the clover to dry out. And the soap will cause the vinegar stick to the leaves. The water is just to mix the other ingredients properly.

You may have to repeat the spraying process for several weeks before all the clover dries out. And there is also the chance the mixture will get to other grass.

But the good news is that you can control how it spreads. Simply target the clover and spray it directly. Ensure there is splashing on the other grass if you are particular about keeping it.

However, if you are going to go for commercial weed killers, try those which contain mecoprop-P and dicamba. If the specie of clover is particularly resistant to these ingredients, try a weed killer that contains fluroxypyr.

When to Apply Weed Killers

You should use these weed killers between April and August. If you use them after August, they wonât be as effective. This is probably because the clover and other weed have grown stronger.

Most importantly, ensure you learn how to safely and properly apply these weed killers.
