How To Repair Yellow Burn Spots On Your Lawn With Baking Soda

Having 3 dogs and 3 goats outside I have had my share of yellow burn spots on my lawn. Depending on your dog or cat he/she can get out of hand at times. They seem to choose a different place to do their thing each time. I have not come up with an eHow article on how to stop them from doing that!! Here I will tell you how to use common items around your home to repair their damage . This is what I use to fix the problem without having to purchase something that is going to cost a lot of money. Everyday items in your home will work just fine.
To repair the yellow burn spots that my animals cause on my lawn by urine, I dissolve one cup Arm & Hammer Baking Soda in a one gallon watering can or jug. I then saturate the urine spots ever three days. the baking soda neutralizes the acidity of the urine and deodorizes the area of the lawn, preventing my dogs from recognizing the spot and doing the same thing again.
To kill fungis that caused the brown patch , I mixed one tablespoon of Arm & Hammer baking Soda, one tablespoon Wesson Corn Oil, and one gallon of water. I then Sprayed a light mist of this solution on my lawn. I aerated the lawn and added one-half incle of compost. Compost that I use contains microbe trichoderma, which feeds on the fungis.

Water Levels: Overwatering & Underwatering

The grass will have shallow roots which cant hold up against poor uptake of nutrition and youll start to see yellow patches on a once green lawn.
Similarly, underwatered grass will create drought symptoms, making the lawn dehydrated and then turn yellow or a shade of brown.

Its time to adjust your watering routine! Watering properly is a simple but effective way to dramatically improve your lawn.
Never water your lawn unless its completely necessary. If there is a good amount of rain when you notice the grass turning yellow, stop watering for some time before resuming again.

Causes And Fixes For Yellow Grass
If the tips of your grass have turned yellow, but the rest of the grass blade is green, then there is probably a quick and easy solution. All you may need to do is replace the blade on your lawn mower. If the blade on your lawn mower is dull or blunt, it may be tearing the grass and fraying the edges. How Does Yellow Patch Occur
Both are caused by fungi that live in soil, thatch and dead leaves within the lawn all year long. These fungi feed on the grass by drawing nutrients from the plant and destroying the plant cells.
These diseases spread in the form of spores by wind, air, water, and foot traffic, and may re-appear from year to year if certain conditions are favorable. As a general rule, areas that have been prone to disease problems in the past will at some time, if not yearly, have the same problems again.

Cutting The Grass Too Short
Cutting the grass too short can leave it without enough moisture, and it will start to turn yellow.
This will usually show up soon after you’ve cut the grass. It could happen only in certain areas, often because the ground is uneven.
How to fix it – Give the grass enough water to grow, and let it get a little longer. Next time you cut the lawn, raise the cutting height of your mower.

Im writing this as a storm rages outside and I know that some of the clay soils in this area will be struggling to cope with the deluge. Waterlogging occurs when rainwater or runoff from a leaky pipe just cannot escape from the soil fast enough.
We know, that soil is incredibly absorbent its one of Mother Natures best inventions. But there comes a point when it just cant soak up any more liquid. In an ideal world, water filters through the soil, through the bedrock and away into streams and rivers. Sometimes though, theres a bit of an overload which leads to a backlog.
Why does that make the lawn turn yellow? The reason that soil is so absorbent is that there are trillions of tiny air pockets between the particles. These double up as water channels. BUT heres the thing. Plant roots need water AND air. If all of the spaces within the soil are filled with water, the roots dont have a source of oxygen. They start to suffocate and then struggle to provide the rest of the plant with nutrients. The result leaves are undernourished and lose their colour just as starving people look pale.

Treat For Pests And Diseases
Pests such as chinch bugs and grubs can cause damage to your lawn that will manifest as leaf discoloration and even dead brown patches of grass. Fungal infections are also known to cause yellowing and greying of grass blades at the base of the shoots.
To turn yellow grass green fast, apply a lawn fungicide such as Scotts DiseaseX. It will get rid of most fungal infections that cause leaf discoloration and root rot.
For pests, apply a grub killer in early spring to prevent the larvae from feeding on the roots of your turfgrass and causing it to turn yellow-brown.
Could Your Yellow Lawn Be Hungry
Certain nutrient deficiencies will affect the colour of your lawn. Does your lawn fertiliser contain micro-nutrients as well as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium?
Is the soil beneath your lawn making nutrients available to your plants? Some soils, particularly very acidic or very alkaline soils, react with the chemical elements of plant nutrients and effectively lock them away so that the roots cannot absorb them. Some of the budget feeds dont supply the full range of nutrients for you lawn. Deficiencies will show up as pale areas between the veins.

How To Fix Yellow Spots And Dog Urine Odors On Grass

Doggy spots on the lawn are not attractive and can become smelly. There must be some happy medium — where we can have our beautiful patch-free lawns — and they can attend to business. The solution is repair and control. You can have the 9th hole-green-grass that you desire — and prevent damage from occurring in the future.
Water the areas the dog uses most frequently. The water will dilute the urea, which contains high levels of nitrogen. Grass needs nitrogen, but the urine also contains salts that burn the grass. Excess nitrogen can cause high, overly green areas, that don’t match the rest of the lawn.
Sprinkle lime on the saturated areas. This will balance the pH in the soil, which has become acidic due to the dogs urine. Lime sweetens soil: It brings it back to a basic level, that most plants thrive in. The amount of lime will depend upon the area being treated. Follow the directions on the bag.
Use a shovel and remove the dead sod. Wait until after a dormant period — into early spring, to be sure the sod won’t recover — since most of the time it will. Cut out the sod and remove two inches of soil. Top the area with two inches of topsoil. Spread grass seed over the area, and dust with sand, to keep the seed from blowing away. Water every other day for two weeks.
