Lawn Mower On A Budget
I need a new mower and so yesterday I went to Lowes and looked at their reconditioned mowers
These are mowers that were returned.
Im looking for a 21 Honda self propelled and want to pay about 50 cents on the dollar
Lowes had 8-9 push mowers that had been returned.
Each mower had a packet of information including an invoice from a local small engine shop which had repaired each of the mowers
I read some of the invoices and saw that customer had returned the mower because it wouldnt start and the repair business said mower started first pull and ran just fine
Anyway, Lowes has a $369 Honda self propelled mower for $220
BUT THERE IS NO GRASS CATCHER
Their other mowers were an off brand
They had two of their lowest priced mowers these are the cheaply made wally world disposable type of mower
So I drove over to Home depot and they only had TWO reconditioned mowers but THEY ONLY REDUCED THE PRICE BY $20 ON A THREE HUNDRED DOLLAR MOWER
I guess I just wanted to see if anyone else had bought a mower this way and how it worked out for you
Im looking to buy a good mower for around $100 and there wasnt much of anything on craigs list
Thanks for any input
I was forced to give up an almost new Toro at a yard sale ’cause I didn’t need it anymore following a move. The SOB got it for $40.
Grass catchers are not cool. Mulchers are.

Is The Lawnmower Repair Specialist Being Upfront
Jones says he lists the prices of common services on his website and tries to be as open about costs as possible. Theres less confusion that way, he says.
If a lawnmower repair specialist hasnt listed a menu of prices online or is dodging your questions about prices, its probably time to move on to someone else.
While a lawnmower repair specialist might be upstanding, you still might be dealing with someone who lacks experience, and you might end up paying more simply because they are not sure of what is actually needed or of their ability to troubleshoot, and they cannot make the repair in a timely manner, says lawnmower repair specialist Ken Hinton, owner of Kens Mobile Services in Pflugerville, Texas.
Before any repair work is done, be sure youre clear on what kind of work is being done , how long itll take and what itll cost.

When Do Lawn Mowers Go On Sale At Lowes And Other Big Box Stores
Lawn mowers typically go on sale at big box stores when they need to sell them. Thats usually the Spring prior to the start of the cutting season, the Fall after the season, or on holidays specifically Christmas and Fathers Day.
Youre typically not going to find a mower on sale in these stores during the busy cutting season. If somebody is looking for a mower in July, it usually means its a pretty urgent purchase. Of course these big box stores cant just mark up something a huge amount during these months either, because the consumer will just go to a competitor.
How Often Should You Change Lawn Mower Oil
Taking proper care of your lawn mower will help your machine run well for years to come. One overlooked aspect in lawn mower maintenance is how frequent oil changes should take place. Engine oil and oil filters should be replaced at least once every spring or summer, or every 50 hours of use whichever comes first.

Clean Or Replace Your Air Filter
A lawn mowers air filter should be cleaned or replaced to keep dirt and debris from clogging the engine.
- Determine if you have paper or foam air filters.
- Check your operators manual to determine if air filter pre-cleaner is required. If so, follow the instructions in the manual.
- Disconnect the spark plugs before removing filters.
- Replace paper filters when they look dirty. You should keep a few on hand.
- Plastic foam filters should be removed and washed with warm, soapy water. Air-dry thoroughly, then work about 2 tablespoons of clean mower oil evenly across the filter to lightly coat it.
- Reinstall the filter according to instructions.
- Reconnect the spark plugs.
Tip: Be sure to check the air filter a few times during the mowing season, particularly if the mower is getting heavy usage.

Small Engine Oil Recommendations
Different oil types are more effective in different climates depending on the temperatures. Learn which one will be best for your mower.
- SAE 30 is best for warmer temperatures and is the most common oil for small engines.
- SAE 10W-30 is suitable for a varying temperature range. This grade of oil improves cold weather starting, but may increase oil consumption.
- Synthetic SAE 5W-30 offers the best protection at all temperatures as well as improved starting with less oil consumption.
- SAE 5W-30 is formulated for very cold temperatures.
- Vanguard 15W-50 is suitable for a varying temperature range and for continuous use, such as commercial lawn cutting applications.
Tip: When choosing lawn mower oil, use a high-quality detergent oil classified as For Service SF, SG, SH, SJ or higher. Do not use special additives. Synthetic oils are an acceptable oil at all temperatures. Use of synthetic oil does not alter required oil change intervals.

Why Discontinue A Top
Now, as far as were awareEGO was Home Depots top-selling premium battery-powered product line in OPE by dollar share and number two only to Ryobi . Dropping it doesnt make a whole lot of sense. In our own testing, the brand often ranks top in comparative testing for mowers and blowers.
So we started speculating amongst ourselves
Is EGO getting ready to take their brand national? No longer limiting themselves to being exclusive to The Home Depot would explain this sort of response. Weve already seen the brand roll out to thousands of Ace Hardware stores and expand online with and Acme Tools. Perhaps this change was in the works?
Going national would also give the EGO Power+ brand more freedom to deploy additional products as it sees fit based on wider market demands.
Since Lowes is now indicating it will carry and sell EGO outdoor power equipment products, the Home Depot announcement has a bit more context. As EGO moves from Home Depot to Lowes, they also move to a slightly better position. Lowes is the #1 retailer for OPE based on market share. This will be an interesting lateral move for EGO.

Old Lawn Mower Disposal
Your old push mower or riding lawn mower has served you well over the years. Unfortunately, its broken down over time, or maybe youre just ready to upgrade to a newer model. If youre like a lot of people these days, youve probably hired someone to mow your lawn for you and just dont need your old lawn mower anymore.
There are plenty of good reasons for upgrading your lawn mower. Most of the older mowers that people still use today are much more harmful to the environment and less efficient than current lawn mower models. So how do you get rid of an old lawn mower?
Simply throwing them on the curb or in a dumpster just isnt an option. A riding lawn mower or push mower is too big for the garbage bin. Plus, it probably has dangerous fuel and oil residues still in it. The good news is that there are a number of disposal options available for old lawn mowers.
Searching for old lawn mower disposal? BOOK A PICKUP
Making the decision to get rid of your old lawn mower is easy enough, but finding the best way to dispose of your mower can be pretty tough.
Not everyone has the right vehicle to haul an old riding lawn mower or push mower to the local dump or recycling center. Additionally, most city garbage pickup services wont pick up an old lawn mower if you put it out on the curb, and if you do put your mower on the curb, youll get fined for it.
Below are a few suggestions for disposal so that you can finally get rid of that old lawn mower.
