Keep On Top Of Mowing
Want to know how to get rid of lawn weeds? Frequent mowing, to the right length, will help
Knowing how to mow a lawn properly is a skill that most grass-owning-gardeners need to know.;
One of the most important things to remember is to not cut it too short, or when it’s frosted or wet, all of which can damage the turf. But mowing it in the right conditions, to the right height, will encourage strong, healthy grass. This will be better-equipped to out-grow weeds.
If your lawn is already speckled with the likes of creeping thistle or common ragwort, then regular mowing is also a good way to get rid of them.
Be sure to add a clippings bag or box to your best lawn mower before you start mowing. That way, you’ll be less likely to spread the seeds around, which would only lead to further weed growth. Removing all the seeds and cutting back the plant again and again in this way will weaken the weeds and prevent them from setting new seeds. Eventually , your lawn will have much less weeds overall.

Lawn Care & Maintenance
If you dont take good care of your turf, its not unusual to see weeds take over your entire lawn.
The most important thing you can do to keep weeds out of your lawn is to make sure it grows in perfect health.
A thick, lush lawn leaves less opportunity for weeds to establish themselves. And crowds out any that start to grow.
Here are some lawn maintenance tips that help to keep weeds away:
Removing Moss From Lawns
You can remove most moss easily with a rake or shovel. If you notice stubborn moss patches remaining or if you prefer to be certain that the moss is gone, an application of lawn moss killer, like ferrous sulfate or potassium soap of fatty acids, will help to kill the moss.
No matter which removal method you choose, be sure to dispose of all the moss when you are finished clearing the area. Any lingering pieces of moss contain spores that are likely to regenerate at a later time, potentially undoing all of your hard work.
Once you have removed the moss, you can treat your soil if need be to ensure that it is fertile, properly moist and of the correct acidity. Then, you may lay down grass seed that is appropriate for your climate type and the conditions of your yard.

Can I Overseed After Weed And Feed
It is not recommended to overseed your lawn after applying weed and feed fertilizer. This type of lawn food contains herbicides that can inhibit germination of both grass and weed seeds. If youve just put down weed and feed, wait at least 6 weeks before sowing grass seed.
Read the weed and feed product label for the recommended time to wait before reseeding your lawn. Follow the instructions to ensure you achieve a high germination rate when overseeding a weedy yard.
While fall is the perfect time to overseed your lawn and encourage weed control, there are other seasons to overseed provided you understand the risks.
You can overseed in the early spring, but make sure the lawn is well drained for the best results.;Weed competition is more progressive and intense as spring progresses. So unless you time the overseeding period before weed germination;in spring, doing so at this time may not be effective.
Summer is the least desirable time to overseed your lawn;especially if it has weeds. In early summer, the conditions are so hot that theres a huge demand for irrigation for proper overseeding to be possible. This is also the time when broadleaf weeds tend to thrive, and therefore your overseeding efforts are likely to fail.
Getting Rid Of Weeds In Lawn Naturally
Compacted soil is the enemy of a great lawn. Grassroots struggle to get access to enough oxygen, water, and nutrients down into their roots. Meanwhile, weeds take over.
Invest in one of the many lawn aeration tools available, allowing you to reintroduce airflow and nutrients by creating deep thin holes across your lawn surface.
5. Pull weeds out by hand
Perhaps the most environmentally-friendly way of getting rid of weeds is to pull them out by hand. These weeds can then be left to dry in the sun and used as compost or mulch.
However, its easier said than done when it comes to pulling out all those weeds from a large lawn area. So if youre looking for quicker ways, you may want to try my other suggestions instead.;
6.Use a home-made herbicide
Boiling water is by far the simplest natural herbicide you can use to kill your weeds. Simply boil a large pot of water on the stove, then pour it over the leaves and stems of the weeds.
Boiling water doesnt harm the environment and works effectively to burn the weeds. Word of caution: take extra care when carrying the big pot of boiling water as you dont want to burn yourself in the process.;;;
7. Sprinkle cornmeal
Simply sprinkle your lawn with cornmeal to prevent the seeds from germinating. This natural treatment is best done in early spring. Note: dont try this method on your vegetable garden. Otherwise, you wont harvest anything!;
8.Cover with mulch
9. Pickle them with vinegar

Sod Versus Grass Seed
Now that you have prepared things properly, its going to be time to make a very important decision. You could go along with what has already been mentioned and just plant some grass seeds, or you could decide to install sod instead.
There are going to be benefits and setbacks associated with each of these options. If you dont truly have a lawn right now, then installing sod might be very appealing, but you must consider all factors before coming to an ultimate conclusion.
Types Of Weeds Youll Find In Your Yard
Not all types of weeds are disturbing for your yard. But anyway, if you feel disturbed thats up to you. Generally, youll find Dodder, Red weed, Orange Hawkweed, deer tongue, Bull thistle, Smooth brome, slender rush, spotted knapweed.;
Some of them would beautify the yard. The red weed looks gorgeous. Smooth bromes are sometimes used as medicines but those will truly create a disturbance. So, its wise not to thrive them out.

Preparing Your Lawn For Success
Aside from choosing the best time, you must prepare your lawn for overseeding to work the best.
- Cut your grass short. When mowing your lawn normally, you should only cut it by 1/3 its length. But for overseeding, you want the grass short enough to make sure grass seed can get close to the surface. Try cutting the grass by 2/3 its lengths or cut it down to about 1 ½-inches tall.
- Clear your lawn of clippings. After mowing your lawn, make sure there are no clippings on your yard. These can interfere with new grass seed. Either use a bag on your mower or rake them up afterwards.
- Let air into your yard. You want to then loosen up the soil to improve soil contact with the new seeds. This is also a good time to remove thatch from your yard. Either aerate your lawn or use an iron rake to loosen the turf.
Choose The Best Grass
Jerry’s yard is full of mature trees, which help shade his landscape. Fescue would be a great option for him, because it does well in partially shaded areas. The grass will require a bit more watering than Jerry’s current lawn, but he’ll get better results.
Paul suggests Jerry use a mixture of fescue two types of tall fescue and also a creeping red fescue, which is extremely shade tolerant; in areas of complete shade, the red fescue will help fill in the bare spots.

Reasons Your Lawn Is Full Of Weeds
Starting out, you probably want to know just why weeds have overtaken your grass, so you can prevent it from happening again.
- Poor grass growth: Weeds thrive in thinning grass. The best way to keep weeds out is to have thick, tall, dense grass all over your lawn. If your grass is cut too short, its more susceptible to a full-on weed invasion. Setting your mower to the highest setting can help with this.
- Not enough water: Weeds tend to have robust root systems, and can easily compete with your grass for moisture. If you are not watering your grass enough, the weeds can absorb what water there is, taking it away from your grassroots.
- Compacted soil: If your soil becomes too compacted, whether from excessive foot traffic or poor soil composition, your grassroots wont have access to the nutrients, water, or air they need. This stressed turf makes for an exceptional weed breeding ground.
Using The Dibo Method
Another thing introduced in early 2014 is DiBO. Its developed as the ultimate solution: the WEEDKILLER. Its a high-pressure cleaner that can be used as a multifunctional cleaning apparatus. The DiBO goes from side to side the weeds and destroys them forever. Thats why its one of the most effective ways to clean up the weeds of your yard.

Will A Waterlogged Lawn Cause Moss
A waterlogged lawn is a problem that could enable the condition of your lawn to deteriorate into a lawn that has patchy and bare areas and this would be a condition that could enable moss to grow into these bare patches.
Moss does tend to thrive in damp conditions so if you have a permanently damp lawn this would make it a prime area for moss to take over, however, if your lawn is waterlogged and underwater this is not good for any plants.
When your lawn is waterlogged the condition of the grass will quickly deteriorate and if it is underwater for long enough the grass will completely die and this is a disaster in the fight against moss.

Remember To Rake And Till
Its also going to be necessary to rake and till to get things ready for the new lawn. The weeds that you killed with the herbicide should eventually turn brown and die off, and this is the time where you need to rake things over.
Get your rake out and try to rake away as many of the weeds from the area as you can. You should also be able to utilize a tilling fork to pull out extra weeds so that you can start preparing the soil.

One of the most frustrating things for many homeowners is battling with weeds in their yard. There are several things to try when trying to get rid of them. Ultimately, it is important to remember that removing all weeds is impossible.

Mow The Lawn On The Lowest Setting
Set your mower to the lowest setting possible in order to scalp the lawn you want to overseed. Scalping your lawn;helps improve the seed-to-soil contact that in turn improves the rate of seed germination. Set your lawn mowers deck as low as possible though any setting between 1.5 and 2 inches would be a good option to consider if the lawn does not have too many weeds.
- If your lawn is level, you can set the mowing deck as low as 1 inch from the ground.
- If your lawn is bumpy, set the blades a little higher up to 2 inches to prevent damaging the blades.
Pro tip: Always bag clippings if your lawn has weeds;that have gone to seed to prevent spreading weed seeds all over your yard and worsening the problem.
It is also a good idea, in my experience, to mow right before the rainy week to keep the lawn moist. It makes my mowing job a lot easier as the grass is soft and the thatch easy to remove right before overseeding weedy lawns.
How To Destroy Brush
Vigorous shrubs and woody invaders from the wild are among the most difficult plants to eradicate from overgrown yards. Shrubs like tree of heaven , Brazilian peppertree and other woody weeds resprout from their roots, so cutting them down is only a short-term solution. However, herbicides that contain glyphosate, fluazifop or triclopyr can destroy these plants. These brush-killing herbicides are applied to the foliage or to cut stems, depending on the manufacturers’ instructions. Wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, gloves, safety goggles and a hat when using strong brush-killing herbicides. Spray on a still, dry day and store herbicides in a place where children and animals have no access.
Foliar applications are most effective when the shrub’s leaves are fully open at the end of summer or early in fall. If you’re applying a herbicide to cut stems, cut the stems when the shrubs are actively growing and don’t delay painting on the herbicide. You may have to wait several weeks to see results because the chemicals take time to move through the plant and into the roots. Don’t cut down woody weeds while you’re waiting for a herbicide to take effect.
Always wipe the blades of your pruning shears or pruning saw with rubbing alcohol before and after pruning shrubs to help prevent the spread of pests and diseases.

Natural Methods For Weed Removal In Your Lawn
If you dont like the idea of using chemical herbicide on your lawn then here are some natural methods you can try:
Pulling Weeds By Hand
Sometimes, the traditional way is the best. If you only have 1 or 2 plants to remove, then weeding by hand is usually quick and effective.
Use a trowel to dig down around the plant and remove it from the ground. Make sure you take the roots as well.
If you want to make the job easier, you can use a weed puller. This tool allows you to stand as you pull the weeds out of the ground.
The main drawback of removing them by hand is that it takes a lot of hard work if you have a lawn full of weeds.
And because some plants grow back quickly if you leave any of the root system behind, it can be difficult to completely get rid of them without taking great care.
A common problem weed thats very difficult to control by hand once its well established in your yard is nutsedge.
Another natural method that people often recommend is vinegar. This burns the weed on contact, killing every part it touches. Pour it into a handheld sprayer and then apply it to all visible parts of the plant.
Youll have to use a strong acetic acid solution of somewhere between 10-20% concentration. Normal table vinegar isnt usually powerful enough for the job.
But there are two problems with using vinegar.
