Clover mites go through 4 life stages â eggs, larvae, nymphs and adults. The clover mite overwinters in any dry protected location primarily in the egg stage. Sidewalk cracks, walls of buildings and logs can host vast numbers of overwintering eggs.
The overwintering eggs hatch early in the spring and clover mite adults become active as soon as the temperature warm above about the mid-forties and begin to climb up the exterior walls from the ground and gain entrance around windows and doors. Overwintering mites hatch in the spring and begin to produce second generations. Spring generations will aestivate, which is a form of summer hibernation where mites go inactive on warm, dry days. Second generations typically complete in the fall.
Clover mite populations may become large since females can lay up to 70 eggs and each becomes a mature adult in 30 days or less under suitable circumstances. Clover mites reproduce by parthenogenesis, which means the females are able to reproduce without being fertilized by the males.

Clover Mites In The Car
If you have clover mites in your car, youll want to use a portable vacuum and suck them up.
Do NOT crush them because they will stain leather, PVC, fabric, and paint.
A vacuum is the only way to remove them efficiently without using any risky chemicals. Youll also want to find out how they got in and fix it so no further mites can sneak through.
Essential oils may work on plastic surfaces, but you should be careful using it on fabrics or leather. If nothing works, you can consider using a commercial approach, such as a fogger but ONLY if its safe for cars.

They don’t bite people and they don’t spread diseases like ticks. They can, however, cause other issues. Let’s take a look at these tiny pests and see what we can learn.

Spreading Natural Powders Around Your Yard
Some products that come in powder form and are safe to use around your home include baby powder, diatomaceous earth, and boric acid.
When learning how to kill clover mites, spread a thin layer of these powders around your house, patio, shrubbery, and ornamental plants using a duster machine. If that doesnt work, turn them into a homemade deterrent spray.

Impact Of Clover Mite Populations
In this next section, well discuss the impact of larger clover mite populations. For the most part, these little red bugs are not harmful, but they can become a nuisance if there are many of them. Large mite populations can destroy grass and plants. While they can do more harm outside, they are mostly known for being a pest inside the home.
Outdoors
Particularly during springtime, these tiny red bugs can damage lawns and plants because this is when they are the most active. Its also most commonly when these red bugs show up on concrete. Light brown, dead patches in your grass will appear irregularly around the perimeter of your home. They tend to stay with ten feet of a tree, building, or vertical surface to lay eggs and molt.
Just before winter, clover mite damage will occur in sunny, dry lawn patches. This is when the fall spider mites hatch and feed for one last cycle before winter. The damage is often mistaken for winter kill on the lawn.
Because they also need a water source, large populations can also congregate around water sources like pools and sprinkler systems. If you live in an area where it rains more often, then the mites wont need to find a water source.
The University of Missouri stated that when a lawns soil is high in nutrients, then the potential for a clover mite infestation is also high. New homes with new sod often experience clover mite infestations. And lawns that use a lot of fertilizer tend to encourage larger mite populations.
