Mow The Right Way Around Your Lawn

Dont look at the calendar, look at the grass itself to decide when it is time to mow. Ideally, in a single mowing operation, you should never remove more than a third of the total lawn height. If you cut too much the grass that determines future growth can be stressed.

It matters, too how you mow your lawn. Wait for the grass to dry, both from the rain and from the dew. Before it gets too hot outside, you might prefer to mow your lawn in the morning, but this is not what is best for the grass.

The advice that were about to give you should be taken as just that, advice. One of the best things that you can do for your lawn is to get to know it.

Take some time observing how it looks each day, in the morning and in the evening. Try to become aware of all of the different elements that affect it and how these fluctuate throughout the day. The better understanding you have of your lawn and your specific microclimate, the better youll be able to take care of it.

Then, you can consider the following :

• Watering in the morning is the best because temperatures are cooler and winds are normally calmer. If possible, water before 10 a.m. so that all of the moisture can be absorbed before the heat of the day kicks in and evaporates all the water away.
• If you have no option but to water in the evening, try to do so before nightfall .
• When watering, you want the top six to eight inches of soil to be wetwhich equates to around one inch of water per week. This can be done as a single watering or two waterings this every week.

If you want a lawn that is a deep, lush green as much of the year as possible, then you are going to need to do some serious planning ahead of time to make that happen. Deep green grass is fairly easy to keep up once you have it, but you need to plan — and plant — appropriately as well as use the right maintenance techniques in order to get that bright, deep color that you want.

Pick the right mix of grass seed. When you plant grass seed, a mixture of seeds are best to keep your lawn lush and deep green under any circumstance. Make sure that the seeds are deemed “climate appropriate” for your area. You may need “warm season,” “cool season” or both depending on what the weather and temperatures are like where you live.

Water carefully and regularly. Water your grass regularly, but always do so in the morning so that the water does not sit on the grass blades in the afternoon or evening and provide an ideal spot for mildew and mold. Water when the ground is dry, but do not water daily unless it is dry every day or you will train your grass to grow shallow roots, which makes it susceptible to a variety of spotting diseases that will discolor your lawn.

Rake up grass clippings. This helps grass seeds root and sprout more quickly and prevents your lawn from “paling” as the dead clippings become more visible over the course of the summer.

Do I Need To Feed For A Green Lawn

For the best chance of getting a lush, green lawn, apply a spring feed just as the grass is starting to grow in March. The fertiliser should contain nitrogen, which encourages strong healthy growth, as well as potassium, potash and trace elements. Many brands are available, mostly as resin coated granules, which are easy to apply. The granule coat breaks down gradually, providing the lawn with a constant supply of nutrients without the risk of burning or scorching.

One application should be enough to see the lawn through to the autumn. Types Of Iron Lawn Supplements

There are two main types of iron supplements:

• Synthetic Iron Fertilizer: Manufactured iron rich fertilizers, such as Ironite, are an inexpensive and fast-acting supplement. They are usually spread as granules, with foliar sprays also available that can produce results within days. The disadvantage of synthetic iron fertilizers is that they can turn your lawn gray if over applied, and if youre not careful when spreading, they will stain your concrete driveway a rusty-orange.
• Organic Iron Fertilizer: Organic sources of iron, such as Milorganite and greensand, are slower to break down, but the iron is naturally chelated, which makes it more readily absorbed by the plants. Organic iron sources wont stain your concrete, and they contain other nutrients that naturally build up your soil and lawn.

Why Your Grass Isnt Green Already

There are reasons why your grass isnt the dark green color that you want.

• Pests and diseases

The most common grass diseases and pests include Pythium blight, gray leaf spot, fusarium blight, etc. that cause grass discoloration and may even kill it.

How Do I Get The Mowing Right
