How To Choose The Right Fabric
Ill start with the fabric I used.
In the spring of 2011, Hancock Fabrics had a mega fabric clearance sale. You can see some of the fabric I managed to pick up in the second of my How Not to Destash posts.
In addition to bolts and bolts of 100% cotton priced at $1 per yard, they also had several rolls of their upholstery fabric priced at $2 per yard. I knew I would need at least 10 yards to recover our lawn chairs. Unfortunately, when I found a roll of fabric that I liked there werent quite seven yards of it. Not to mention, those seven yards werent continuous yardage but in two separate pieces on the roll.
But I really, really liked that fabric.
So I searched through the rest of the upholstery fabric and found a large striped fabric that matched the blue and white of the main fabric priced at $4 per yard. There was a little over 3 ½ yards of it.
I figured if I used the striped fabric for the sides of the cushions, I might have just enough of the main floral fabric for rest of the cushions.
To make the pattern:
On several of our cushions, the fabric was very badly worn so when it came time to making a pattern for the new covers, I chose one of the cushions where the fabric was in good enough condition to provide pieces to trace around.
Then I carefully unpicked the seams that held the back and seat of the cushions together taking note that the originals had been sewn together using an enclosed or French seam.

The response you received might not have been what you expected. The number was higher than you thought it would be.
That lead to even more questions: What does the price really include? Is my chair actually worth the effort? What is involved in reupholstering a chair anyway? Should I try and do it myself?

Replacing Patio Chair Spline
Were going to replace the seat cord with new. But I am using a slightly larger cord this time around since the original cord clearly was able to pull right through the track. You can get this vinyl patio spline HERE.
Use the old cord that you remove to get the right length for the replacement cord.
Feed the new vinyl cord back into the opening for the patio chair seat.
Next, feed the mesh seat back into the track for the patio chair frame.
The cord will sit on the inside of the opening while the mesh seat on the outside.
Once you feed the entire mesh seat back into the track you can line up the seat with the chair frame.
Considering your repaired patio chair seat should be nice and tight or taught, whichever you prefer this may take a little muscle to get the seat in place.
Once in place, you can now resecure with the bolts that you removed earlier.
Your once broken patio chair can now be used allowing you to spend your money on things like BBQing and enjoying time with loved ones instead of new outdoor furniture.

I cringe when I see old patio furniture sitting near a dumpster. Tossed to the curb. What was once well loved outdoor patio furniture now is filled with holes, tears and covered in rust. People thought they had no other option then to just throw it away and buy something new. Wrong, so wrong. There are options and what I just want to tell you is, it is actually quite easy and very inexpensive to recover your old chaise lounge chairs. So, today I am going to save you a trip to the outdoor patio furniture store and all that money in your pocket, and show you how easy it is to recover your old chaise lounge chairs.
Start With A Solid Item
Inspect a candidate carefully, whether it’s one you already own or a gem you spot in an antique mart or your parents’ attic. How To Recover Lawn Chair Cushions

While its unlikely that you have the exact same set as I do, you can adapt this same process to recover yours.
Sling Replacement For Your Patio Chairs
Patio chair slings last about half as long as the paint on the frame, even on the highest quality patio furniture. Thats why patio chair repair for your slings is important when your furniture is beginning to show its age. It might be that its lost some of its elasticity, or perhaps its become discolored from use and exposure to the weather. When you have a gorgeous piece like a high back dining chair from the Winton Mayfair Sling collection or an ottoman from the Telescope Belle Isle Sling collection, you can protect your investment simply by replacing the sling.
We approach sling replacement with an inspection of your piece or pieces as above. The old sling is then removed, and a new sling is cut out of the fabric of your choice we have over 125 different colors and patterns to choose from. How To Recover Patio Cushions: Step By Step
First, lay your fabric out on a flat surface, pattern side up, and position your patio cushion on it. Put your patio cushion in the top corner of the fabric, with the rear of the cushion near the top side, and allow enough space on the side for the fabric to wrap up the side of the patio cushion. If your fabric is too wide or too long, trim it now. Just be sure there is ample fabric on both sides of your patio cushion .
Next, pull your fabric up and over your patio cushion so it is covered it entirely. Your fabric will meet at the top. Leave an extra three inches of fabric at the top and then trim any excess.
Once your fabric is in place on your patio cushion, pin the two sides closed. If your cushion is tapered at the back like mine, I recommend you skip the last pin and mark it in another way, such as pins on each side of the fabric in the spot you would have pinned it or a fabric marker.
Be sure to pin the other side of your patio cushion, too.
In the above photo, you can see that Im marking the narrow top with pins, rather than pinning it together.
Now carefully pull the cushion out. If your patio cushion narrows at the back as mine does and you find it hard to remove, simply curl the patio cushion like a taco inside of the fabric, and youll be able to remove it easily.
Sew up each side where you pinned it, then remove the pins. In the photo below, you can see my black stitch lines.
Hand stitch the fabric closed. Double your thread for strength.

Can You Reupholster Outdoor Cushions
Outdoor cushions are like any furniture cushion. That means that it is possible to reupholster them. The real question is if you really want to do it or not. The key comes in with the type of fabric you will use for the job.
If you pick a nice looking but cheap fabric, then it will probably fade in the sun and the seams will be too weak to stay together. Reupholstering outdoor cushions can be a lot of work and you do not want to waste your time and effort on cheap fabric.
If you are doing it yourself, then make sure to wash the fabric before you start sewing. Also, use the old cushion as your pattern. That way your task will be a lot easier and a little cheaper. When you cut the fabric for the welting cords, cut across the bias. This gives you a little give when going around corners.
