You Cant Call Sears Canada
When I first posted this blog in 2017, Sears Canada was still a thing. Unfortunately, no more. What I do not recommend is calling Searspartsdirect in the US with your Canadian model number or at least take their responses with a grain of salt. Ive heard all kinds of things from customers theyve been told that 944 numbers are the same as 917 numbers theyre not. That 944 manuals dont exist any longer they do. That a belt is universal for all 42 Craftsman models there are a few common belts, but it is definitely not a universal part.
Searspartsdirect can be a helpful site and Im sure their staff are knowledgeable, but have limited usability for our Canadian Craftsman models. They also dont ship to Canada but if you do get a part number from them, we should be able to provide the part!

Find A Sears Canada Craftsman Manual
Were always on the hunt for Sears Craftsman tractor manuals and Illustrated Parts Lists or parts breakdowns for lawn mowers or lawn and equipment. Sears Canada models and made by AYP/Husqvarna/Poulan are always a challenge and dont easily cross into Sears USA models and made by Roper/ Electrolux Home Products.
If youre looking for Sears USA Craftsman models that start with 917, stop reading and go to the Searspartsdirect.com website.

How To Change My 22 In Craftsman Lawn Mower Blade
21 September, 2017
Craftsman lawn mowers are sold by Sears department stores. The Craftsman 22-inch mower is a walk-behind unit that is powered by a small gasoline engine which is operated by a pull starter. The single cutting blade is durable but will wear over time, so you must remove it to sharpen and eventually replace it.
Locate the spark plug on the side of the engine cylinder. Grasp the spark plug boot where it attached to the spark plug and pull it straight up to release it from the plug.
Tip the mower on its side with the carburetor and air filter assembly facing upwards, as this will keep fuel from leaking out of the mower.
Put on a pair of heavy work gloves. Hold the blade firmly with one hand. Place a socket that is attached to a ratchet wrench on the bolt at the center of the blade. Loosen and remove the bolt. Be careful not to loose the flat mounting plate, which may fall off once you remove the bolt.

Lift the blade straight off of the crankshaft and remove it from the cutting deck.
Slide the blade adapter straight off of the crankshaft. Apply a layer of light-weight motor oil to the crankshaft and the interior surface of the hole in the blade adapter with a finger. Slide the adapter back into place on the crankshaft.

How Long Do Mower Blades Last
The answer to this question will depend on the type of blades you have, but its usually around the 100-200-hour mark. If you have a small garden, then you may only need to change your blade every few years. For commercial use, this could be every few weeks. If you hit debris, such as roots or stones, then that could ruin the blade immediately. Consistently hitting small stones will quickly dull and damage the blade. If you want to extend the life of your blades, then its a good idea to wipe them down after each use to keep them clean.
About Mower Replacement Blades
Gas and electric push lawn mowers can go the distance when given the proper maintenance, but when your mower blades are damaged, chipped or dull, they can cause damage to your lawn mower and create irregular cuts across your beautiful lawn. Dull mower blades shred grass instead of cutting it, leaving your lawn jagged and vulnerable to disease and discoloration.
If you feel like your lawn mower isn’t performing to its full potential, you can usually find a way to repair it rather than trading it in for a new one. If you notice that the cuts your lawn mower makes are less precise lately and suspect that the blades may need sharpening, learn how to sharpen lawn mower blades with our helpful tips and tricks. We take you through the steps to remove your lawn mower attachments and sharpen the blade with a bench grinder or a rotary sharpening tool. If you can’t do it yourself, many of our locations offer blade sharpening services. Check your local Ace store before buying a lawn mower replacement blade to see if sharpening is a better option.
Of course, you can only sharpen mower blades so much before they wear thin and require replacement, which is why we carry a wide selection of lawn mower blades to fit any size mower, from the smallest, cordless electric to the largest, gas riding mower. Browse our selection of lawn mower replacement blades by brand or model compatibility, or shop for universal sizes to find the best fit for your mower.

Lawn Mower Replacement Parts
These are the parts that require replacement most often:
Blade: Mower blades are always getting dull, rusty and bent. Luckily, theyre easy and inexpensive to replace. Disconnect the spark plug wire for safety before doing any repairs. Flip your mower on its side , then use a wrench to loosen the nut holding on the old blade. Replace it with the new blade, and tighten up the nut.
Be sure to buy a replacement blade of the right length and hole spacing to fit your mower. Online shops and local hardware stores often carry various mower blades, usually costing $20 or less.
Drive Belt: Some self-propelled walk-behind mowers have a drive belt that powers the wheels. These are vulnerable to stretching or cracking over time. If you notice your mower doesnt drive itself as usual, a bad belt is likely why. Buy a replacement of the right length and thickness , then remove the belt cover and pull the old belt from the transmission and drive pullies. Pop the new belt on, then button everything back up.
Pull Cord: Repeated friction from frequent yanking often causes mower pull cords to fray and break. Order a replacement for your specific mower to ensure its the right length and diameter, or get a generic pull cord kit and carefully trim it to length yourself, matching it to the old one. Remove your mowers starter assembly. Unwind the old cord, then cut it at both ends to remove it. Thread the new cord into the starter assembly and handle, then tie it at both ends and wind it back up.
About Lawn Mower Parts
A freshly cut lawn makes for a tidy-looking landscape. But if you dont have time to rake, bag and dispose of the grass clippings, your efforts may be in vain. Grass catchers are lawn mower accessories designed to store these clippings immediately after they are kicked up by a lawn mower.
Whether you use a riding mower, hand reel mower or push mower, theres a grass catching lawn mower attachment for nearly every model. The lawn mower bags or bins that hold the grass are typically lightweight and easy to empty.By preventing the grass from spraying across the ground, youre not only improving the look of your yard, youre also creating a healthier lawn.
Ace Hardware can set you up with the grass catcher that will help you get a clean finish and save your lawn and your time.

How Do I Install Mower Blades On A Craftsman Model 917273180
Craftsman 917273180 lawn mower blades might require replacement as a result of general wear or damage caused by hitting large rocks and stumps. While lawn mower blades can be sharpened to keep them cutting well, sharpening grinds down the metal and cannot be repeated indefinitely. Failure to maintain sharp blades on the Craftsman mower can ultimately affect the health of your lawn because dull blades tear the grass blades, leaving the grass open to infection. Blade removal on Craftsman riding mower model 917273180 can be accomplished with basic hand tools and without removing the mower cutting deck.
Place the riding lawn mower on a flat, level working area such as a driveway or garage floor. Allow the engine to fully cool before working on the riding lawn mower to prevent burns or injury.
Place wooden or concrete blocks in front of and behind the riding lawn mowers rear tires. Set the parking brake on the riding lawn mower to prevent the mower from rolling or shifting while working. Press the brake pedal fully all the way down, and pull the parking brake lever up to set the parking brake. The parking brake pedal is set when the pedal stays in the down position and the brake lever remains in the up position.
Align the star-shaped hole in the center of the new cutting with the star-shaped hub on the blade spindle, push the new blade onto the blade spindle.
Height Adjustment And Range
Were iffy about a single point height adjustment with gas mowers because the weight of the mower can introduce flex and fatigue to that point, resulting in a flimsy look and feel. Its something we normally see on lighter battery-powered mowers .
The Craftsman M310, however, reaches a compromise here. Rather than forcing the user to adjust the deck height at each of the wheels, it employs a two-point adjustment at the front and back of the mower. It feels pretty sturdy, and only having to adjust two wheels is still more convenient than four.
This mower has 6 different height settings that range from 1 to 3.5. We might like to see a bit more range on the top end for our St. Augustine grass, but this mower has the range to tackle most grasses pretty effectively.

Type Of Your Lawn Mower
Various types of lawn mower have different demands, and most blades will either fit one or the other. Riding lawn mowers have a greater level of demand, and they will often require multiple blades. The Mr Mower Blades 195-005 is a great example compatible with various models of this type.
Walk-behind models can use the likes of the Maxpower 331040B Universal Lawn Mower Blade, but this can also be compatible with any mower than can match its fittings. You need to know the type of lawn mower you have and the type of blades it supports.
